about.
After moving to Canada from the United States in the early 2000's, I left behind my former "Corporate America" career as an HRIS Benefits Systems Administrator in exchange for a new career in Vancouver, British Columbia's film and television industry - more specifically, in the field of Visual Effects.
Nearly two decades later, I find myself still in Canada and still happily working in Visual Effects today (as an added bonus, I'm able to work in both the United States and in Canada without the need for a Visa and / or work permit).
While a lot has changed in the industry since the early years, much of the creative process and the pursuit of great story telling remains the same. It is this creative desire that fuels my passion and continues to propel me forward, with a hunger and thirst to keep learning and the excitement to see what lies ahead.
After spending many years on both ends of the visual effects filmmaking spectrum (Studio / Production and Visual Effects Houses), I've grown into a well-rounded and knowledgable Visual Effects professional. Whether on set with crew and actors, reviewing shots with artists in dailies, or sitting with the director in the D.I. suite, I'm enjoying what I do, and am thankful for the opportunity to be doing it.
Although supervising is my preferred focus, producing will always have a place in my processes. I believe that proper producing not only helps maintain balance in the creation of visual effects, but also adds to their quality, as well as to help pave a successful path to their completion.
When not creating visual effects for feature films, television, and / or commercials, I enjoy photography and spending time with my family - especially at one of Toronto's great green spaces, or along Lake Ontario, such as High Park or Humber Bay Park in Toronto's west end.
2018 Highlights: A lot of traveling! A three month episodic supervising gig in Vancouver, followed by a commercial shoot in Vancouver, another in Pucon (Chile), some feature work in Boston, and some additional episodic work in Rhode Island. Finished up the year with a 50+ movie marathon, screening movies for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television as their 2019 VFX Expert Juror on the Feature Film Committee.
2019: Highlights Started the year with a Denver and Montreal commercial shoot, and then it was onto supervising and producer a Hulu episodic called "Utopia Falls". Created all of the visual effects for the show using my own awesome team of artists. It was so much fun being a one stop shop for everything VFX on the show, from the early days of prep, through the final days of color and final delivery. We received a Canadian Screen Award VFX nomination for all of our hard work.
2020: Started off with a bang working on a Cadillac Oscars commercial shoot in New Orleans (featuring Regina King)... and then, coronavirus. The rest of this year was spent at home!
2021: Been very busy with my new company - Tryptyc Theory Inc. (tryptyc.com), check us out! Found some time to Supervise and Produce a couple of episodic TV shows as well, including some on set time in Alberta, Canada. Nice to see those mountains again!
